"Nysa": A Mystical Origin Story
In mythology, the Greek god of wine, Dionysus, was raised in an enchanted, ancient land called "Nysa" (pronounced NEE-suh).
Legend tells of magical nymphs that inhabited Nysa's lush and mountainous landscape.
When the god Hermes delivered the infant Dionysus to Nysa, the nymphs accepted the responsibility of raising the young god to adulthood.
This scene has been revisited in many works of classical art, typically depicting Hermes in a red cloak, dropping baby Dionysus into the arms of the divine, nurturing figures.
