If you've looked up rare plants in Los Angeles recently, you've probably seen the prices. Monstera Albo cuttings going for hundreds of dollars. Alocasia varieties that cost more than your rent. A whole corner of the internet convinced that rare plants are only for serious collectors with serious budgets.
We disagree.
At Nysa Botanica in Downtown Los Angeles, we've made it our mission to bring genuinely unusual, hard-to-find plants to LA at prices that don't require a second mortgage. We source carefully, keep our selection curated, and rotate in new rare finds regularly — so there's always something worth getting excited about.
Here's what we're currently loving.
Monstera Albo (Monstera deliciosa 'Albo Variegata')
Yes, the famous one. Each leaf carries its own unique white variegation — no two are ever identical — which is why plant lovers have been obsessing over it for years. We won't pretend it's cheap, but we work hard to keep our pricing honest. If you've been waiting for the right moment to get one, come see ours in person.
Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris)
One of the most visually striking plants you'll ever own — and one most Angelenos have never even heard of. Its swollen, sculptural trunk stores water naturally, giving it an almost prehistoric silhouette that only gets more dramatic with age. A genuine conversation piece at a fraction of what you'd expect to pay for something this unusual.
Alocasia
From velvety near-black leaves to dramatically ribbed, oversized foliage — Alocasia varieties are having a serious moment right now, and we keep a rotating selection of the most interesting ones. Come in and see what's currently on the floor.
Scindapsus Treubii 'Moonlight'
If you haven't heard of Scindapsus Moonlight yet, you will soon. Its broad, silvery-green leaves have an almost metallic sheen that catches the light in a way no other plant quite replicates. Slower growing than your average Pothos, more interesting in every way — and still surprisingly easy to care for once you find its rhythm.
Begonia Rex
Begonia Rex is foliage as fine art. Swirling patterns of silver, deep burgundy, forest green, and blush pink across dramatically textured leaves make every single plant look like it was hand-painted. No two are ever quite the same — and that's exactly the point. A genuinely rare find that looks anything but ordinary.
Oxalis Triangularis
The purple butterfly plant. Deep, rich triangular leaflets that fold and unfurl throughout the day in response to light — it's one of the few plants that's as captivating in motion as it is at rest. Delicate lavender flowers appear above the foliage, and the whole effect is quietly magical. Rare enough to stop people in their tracks, easy enough to keep thriving.
Rare Orchids
Not the grocery store kind. We carry orchid varieties selected for their character, unusual coloration, and exotic forms — the kind you'd normally have to hunt down online and hope for the best with shipping. Ours are healthy, in person, and ready to go home with you today.
Rare plants in LA don't have to be a luxury. They just have to be sourced right.
