Bird of Paradise
The tropical statement maker.
The Bird of Paradise is the definitive indoor statement tree — and it knows it. Enormous, paddle-shaped leaves of deep, glossy green rise on tall, elegant stems to create a lush, tropical canopy that transforms any room into a resort-worthy sanctuary. Fast-growing, architecturally bold, and endlessly photogenic — this is the plant that defines a space.
Light: Demands bright, indirect to direct light — the more the better. A south or west-facing window is ideal. Strong light encourages the largest leaf development and, in mature plants, the exotic orange and blue blooms it's named for.
Water: Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. Drought-tolerant once established but grows fastest with consistent moisture during the growing season. Reduce watering in winter.
Humidity/Temp: Appreciates moderate to high humidity and consistent warmth; thrives between 65–85°F. Wipe the large leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them glossy and photosynthesizing efficiently.
Pet note: Toxic to pets if ingested; causes mild nausea and digestive discomfort. Best positioned as a floor statement plant in a low-traffic pet area.
Natural variation: Each plant is unique; leaf size, stem height, and overall canopy spread will vary naturally with age and light exposure — and only gets more dramatic over time.
