Lipstick Plant
The dramatic bloomer.
Named for the vivid, tubular flowers that emerge from dark calyxes like lipstick being uncapped, the Lipstick Plant is one of the most rewarding flowering tropicals you can grow indoors. Lush, trailing stems cascade beautifully from shelves and hanging planters, and when it blooms — which it does generously with the right light — the effect is nothing short of spectacular.
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light; strong light is the key to prolific, repeat blooming. Tolerates medium light but flowers less frequently.
Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. Ensure excellent drainage — trailing stems are sensitive to soggy roots.
Humidity/Temp: Loves warmth and humidity; thrives between 65–80°F. A bright bathroom or kitchen is ideal. Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents.
Pet note: Non-toxic to pets — one of the rare trailing bloomers that's completely pet-safe.
Natural variation: Each plant is unique; leaf texture, vine length, and bloom frequency will vary naturally by variety.
