Rubber Tree - Ficus Elastica

Few indoor plants command a room with the effortless authority of a Rubber Tree. Its large, glossy leaves — deep emerald green, rich burgundy, or strikingly variegated depending on the variety — catch the light beautifully and bring a clean, architectural presence that feels equally at home in a minimalist loft or a warmly styled living room. Fast-growing and impressively long-lived, this is a plant that grows with you.

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light for the fastest growth and most vibrant leaf color. Tolerates medium indirect light well, though growth slows considerably. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch and bleach the foliage.

Water: Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly. Drought-tolerant once established — far more forgiving of underwatering than overwatering. Wipe the large leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them glossy and dust-free.

Humidity/Temp: Content in standard home humidity; thrives in consistent warmth between 60–80°F. Sensitive to sudden temperature changes and cold drafts — find it a permanent spot and leave it there.

Pet note: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested; the milky sap can also cause skin irritation — handle with gloves when pruning.
